ABOUT

A Vision Beyond the Piano

For Gene, a piano has never been simply an instrument. It is a meeting point between music, craftsmanship, engineering, and design, but also something more difficult to define. Within its wood, iron, felt, and strings lies an extraordinary ability to transform human touch into sound, emotion, and meaning. In that sense, the piano is almost a code to something universal. Eighty-eight keys, twelve notes, and a seemingly simple mechanical language open an infinite world of expression. Across cultures, generations, and spoken languages, music can communicate what words often cannot, creating a connection to beauty, memory, emotion, and perhaps something divine.

That belief is at the heart of PIANO SOLUTIONS XXI. Gene’s approach begins with profound respect for the knowledge passed down through generations of piano makers. The proportions, materials, acoustics, mechanics, and countless details within a fine instrument exist for a reason. His vision is not to discard that tradition, but to understand it deeply enough to build upon it, preserving what gives the piano its soul while asking what it can become when centuries of craftsmanship meet contemporary design, new materials, modern technology, and the individuality of the person who will ultimately live with it and make music through it.

01

Craft Without Compromise

Every piano begins as a musical instrument. Its voice, touch, balance, responsiveness, and structural integrity must always come first. Design should never exist at the expense of performance. From there, the possibilities open. Finishes, materials, colors, architectural details, decorative elements, and highly personal commissions can transform a piano into something entirely individual while preserving the qualities that make the instrument worth owning in the first place.

Gene approaches each project with the belief that customization should feel intentional rather than ornamental. Every detail should belong to the instrument.

02

THE PIANO AS A PERSONAL OBJECT

For centuries, exceptional pianos have occupied a unique place in the home. They are musical instruments, but they are also pieces of furniture, architecture, sculpture, and family history. Gene believes the next chapter of piano craftsmanship should embrace that role. A piano can reflect the architecture surrounding it. It can complement an interior. It can incorporate materials or details meaningful to its owner. It can be restrained and timeless, or unapologetically expressive. Most importantly, it does not have to look like anyone else’s piano. That idea has become central to the work of Pianos XXI: creating instruments that retain the soul and integrity of the traditional piano while allowing each commission to develop its own identity.

03

LOOKING FORWARD

The name Pianos XXI reflects Gene’s larger vision for the craft—a piano tradition carried into the twenty-first century. That means preserving what deserves to be preserved while remaining curious about what comes next. New materials. New technologies. New approaches to restoration and customization. New relationships between the instrument, the musician, the designer, and the space around it. The goal is not change for the sake of change. It is to keep the craft alive, relevant, and evolving. Because a great piano should honor where it came from. And still leave room for what it can become.
